This event was a great opportunity for all the Goans to share our culture and heritage not only with other Goans but also with fellow Americans through the various sports events and our home cooked Goan food. Thanks to the team work of all people involved, especially to Franky and Maria, Savio,Sharron and Graciano , Phillip, Jeff, Ruie,Manu, George, Noel, Selvyn and Manuel.We were also blessed to have Fr. Daniel Periera( from Goa) present at the event.

Yet another successful Californiangoans San Joao party.The event started with the traditional San Joao Song followed by Cooking competition, Housie, Lemon and Spoon Race, Tug of War[Marrried v/s Bachelors(mens)], Tug of War[Married v/s Single(Womens)],Cockfight, Soccer[Married V/s Bachelors(mens)] and the 2010 Raffle draw.The day concluded with everyone taking a dip in the lake to celebrate the San Joao festival.

The Californiangoans Easter 2010 video has finally been uploaded to YouTube. This video was captured by Mario Rodrigues de Navelim and subsequently given to Savio for editing, hence the delay in uploading it to YouTube. But the memories of that fabulous party is still fresh in our minds as we look forward to yet another great day of fun, festivities, food and Feni. That day is just around the corner and it is the Feast of San Joao ( Saint John the Baptist).

NORTH GOA V/S SOUTH GOA (MATCH I )

The South Goan team suffered a defeat at the hands of the North Goan team during the first match held between them for 2010.The score was 4-2.

The line up for the North Goans consiSted of Ruie, Phillip, Francis, Gracian and Joseph, whereas; the lineup for the South Goans included Frazier, Franky M, Franky F, Clifford and Orlando.

VIVA CARNIVAL 2010

The Carnival is held in Goa in February for three days and nights. It starts when the legendary King Momo takes over the state and the street comes alive with music and color. The week long event is a time for lively processions, floats, graceful dances and non stop festivity. The origin of the word Carnival is still disputed, some say it is from the Italian word Carnevale meaning "End to the Meat" and is an expression of the 40 day fatsing period of lent during which people abstain from eating meat. Another explanation comes from the term "Carrus Navalis" (ship cart), the name of the roman festival of Isis, where her image was carried to the seashore to start the sailing season. The festival consisted in a parade of masks following the adorned wooden boat that would reflect the
float of the modern Carnival.

The IV Annual Californiangoans Christmas party was held at Sitara Indian Restaurant after the midnight mass on 24th Dec(25th morining). The party started with a Champagne toast and delicious Goan food followed by some awesome music by DJ Stanley, which brought everyone to the dance floor. Later, there was a round of Housie followed by Beer drinking which was won By George Pires, Savio Rodrigues and Micheal.The womens beer drinking was won by Maria Monteiro and Sharron Esteves.Prizes were awarded to all the winner and to all those who have been helping put together all the Califoniangoans events. The rest of the night was spent dancing to more great music by DJ Stanley and john.

Thanksgiving which is traditionally a American Family celebration began when the pilgrims who first came to America shared their first harvest with their neighbouring Indians to give thanks to them for teaching them how survive the dreaded winter.Our Thanksgiving celebration was a opportunity for all of us to take a break from our hectic life and to get together with our friends and family and enjoy some home cooked Goan food.

All Souls Day (Dia De Finados)

All Souls Day (Dia De Finados in Potuguese) which is related to the Halloween Day in America or Dia Dos Mortos in Mexico is celebrated all over Goa on Nov 2nd. It follows the All Saints day feast held on Nov 1st. People across Goa hold masses for their loved ones and others, praying safe passage to the eternal life in heaven. It is followed by the Alemacea Jevon.This practice is very similar to te one in Mexico and Brazil. In America it has evolved into what is now known has "Haloween" (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day and the night before it called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween). The San Joao party held at Almaden Lake park turned out to be a huge success. Thanks to all the people who helped get the party together and to all who attended. With support like this, our parties will only get better!

The day started with passing around of the San Joao crown followed by some tasty beef and fish appetizers cooked by chef Carmo Martin. Joseph Lourenco welcomed everyone before announcing the events of the day. Mr Savio Rodrigues read us a letter from Fr Daniel Pereira. Fr, Pereira helped us organize a mass in Konkani earlier in the year. Savio also brought life to the party by singing a few San Joao songs. He was joined by Johnny, Janice Lopes, Maria and Franky Monteiro, and Gracian and Sharron Esteves. Fnally a San Joao toast was made with Goan Feni and the party really kicked off.
Mr Firmino then took over to start the events for the day.

The first event for the day was a tug of war between the Bachelors and the Married Men. The Bachelors triumphed!

Mrs Harriette Pinto, Mr Sabino Colaco and Mr George Pires helped to judge our cooking contest which was next. The choice were difficult to make but we finally had our winners:

1st place- Maria Montiero( sorpotal)

2nd place- Maria Rodrigues(Shrimp caldin)

The next event for the evening was penalty kicks in which George Godinho and Rafael were the winners. George was also the first to score as well as the highest scorer.

The next event was one we all remembered, Needle and Thread, won by Franky Montiero and sharron Esteves

Edwin passed away on 17 jan 2009 in Goa, India. We offer our heartfelt sympathy to Ozwin and his family. We know how difficult this must be for you. You are in our thoughts and prayers. 3RD ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY 2008

Our 3rd annual Christmas party was a huge success thanks to all the people who showed up and the hard work and donations by our patrons.
Christmas has always been a special time of year for most of us back home in GOA.A time to recollect days gone by, celebrate the Greatest Gift of all and meet with family and friends.
It was even greater to make Christmas happen in the USA a home away from home .
Christmas celebrations started with a midnight mass followed by a party at Sitara restaurant(a huge thanks to the owner and management at sitara).The party started at 2am with cake cutting and a champagne toast followed with some good hours of dancing and bingo(housie).The party ended at 8am .We look forward to more fun filled Christmas celebrations ahead of us.

The san joao festival was celebrated in San Jose,California,USA on 06/24/2008 on tuesday. This was the second san joao festival we had in california,the first one was held at Banjara Indian restaurant in Sunnyvale,California.This time though we had a Barbeque at a park followed by a cricket match between the married and the bachelor Goans in California.Each side won two matches.
Sao Joao Festival in Goa is one of the most ostentatious celebrations in Goa. This is one of the major festivals of the Catholic community here and is celebrated with great fervor in the honor of St. John the Baptist. The Sao Joao Festival in Goa takes place on 24th June every year and is a pompous occasion. On this day the young locals in Goan villages get drunk and jump into wells in accordance to the existing custom of this festival. The revelers also consume lots of fruits on this day and are virtually unstoppable in their fun and frolic.
You will be delighted to see the local youth wearing crowns made up of leaves and varied fruits on their heads and going out in processions as they carry native Goan liquor along with them and jump into wells to have fun. Later on in the day, these young people indulge in a sumptuous feast of meat and seafood that marks the end of the festival. The rejoicing of these youth becomes all the more boisterous if it starts to rain.
The Sao Joao Festival in Goa is also marked by different types of folk dance performances or Mandos in the various villages, especially in Salcete taluka of Goa. These dance performances are popularly known as Sangodds and are a popular form of entertainment during this festival. A number of locals and tourists gather in the villages to see these folk dances. On this occasion, friends and relatives exchange fruits and other edibles as a part of the ceremony.
Another popular tradition related to Sao Joao Festival in Goa is the ritual of exchanging pleasantries and food items between any family that owns a well and has a newly married girl. This custom is widely prevalent in all the Goan villages and sees a number of edibles and material gifts being exchanged between the girl’s family and her in laws’ house. The newly wed sons-in-law are invited to their mothers-in-law's house to celebrate this festival and the newly wed daughters are presented with a basket full of fruits like jackfruits, mangoes, pineapples, apples, grapes etc.
